Spectrum and Beyond by Jyoti Jha Launched at Crossword Bookstore; Patna

Award-Winning Bestselling Author Jyoti Jha launched her new book, Spectrum and Beyond, centered on autism awareness, at Crossword Bookstores in Patna, marking a significant literary event during Autism Awareness Month. An Indian author, columnist, TEDx speaker, and storyteller known for her emotionally driven and socially reflective writing, Jyoti’s journey transitioned from a corporate HR background, homemaker and globetrotter, into literature. She represents a growing wave of contemporary Indian writers who bring lived experience and introspection into their storytelling.

Published by Vishwakarma Publications, the book explores Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with a focus on positive parenting, inclusion, the challenges and strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum, and a deeper understanding of neurodiversity. It aims to guide families, educators, and readers toward a more empathetic perspective on individuals with autism and promote greater awareness and inclusion in society. Including a Foreword from Dr. Suneel Godbole, Developmental Paediatrician and HOD, Small Steps CDC at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital & Research Centre, Pune, the book has valuable inputs and testimonials from Ms Masarrat Tavawalla, Sunderji’s Global Academia and Prof. Prabhat Ranjan, Vice-Chancellor, D Y Patil International University, Pune. The book has been endorsed with quotations from reputed media houses like Femina and The Times of India. It has also been endorsed by Bihar’s popular and celebrated Inspector General of Police and the founder and patron of Let’s Inspire Bihar, Vikas Vaibhav IPS. The book is a well-researched material on the topic to understand Autism Spectrum Disorder and is a result of intensive interaction with experts, caregivers, parents, institutes, and, most importantly, with individuals with ASD. It offers not just well-researched information, but stories, strategies, and insights that illuminate the experiences, understanding, and awareness about the spectrum, serving as both a resource and a companion for increasing awareness about ASD. We still have much to learn. But with each new voice, each new perspective, and each new piece of research, we move closer to a world that embraces all minds. The book certainly contributes meaningfully to that vision—and to the ongoing conversation about what it means to support, respect, accept, and truly understand autistic individuals.

The launch event, held on April 17, drew readers, members of the literary community, and supporters of autism awareness. The occasion was described by the author as “a celebration of passion, persistence, and a dream coming alive.” Nitish Raj, Editor-in-Chief- The Literary Mirror, who moderated the event, said “In an age where storytelling often competes with speed and spectacle, Jyoti Jha stands apart—choosing instead the slow, deliberate art of introspection and her words will keep finding their way into the hearts of those who seek stories that truly matter.” The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Rupa Shree, Founder-Director- Mothers Touch School Deoghar, the institute where the idea of the book was conceptualised three years back, and since then, the idea and dream have travelled a long journey to shape into this book. She shared her institute’s initiatives towards autism care and praised the efforts of author Jyoti Jha, aligning her literary journey with such a social cause through this wonderful book.

Spontaneous conversations and personal moments with family and friends building community bonding, the event had a special highlight when an unexpected visit of Shri Rahul Kumar Singh, MLA Dumraon, created a mesmeric and surreal moment for the event and especially the author who was overwhelmed by his appreciative response to the book and the kind gesture of buying a signed copy of the book, depicting true joy and support, not only for the writing community, but also for the great cause of raising Autism Awareness in society.

International poet and author Avinash Bandhu graced the occasion with his precious presence and set the tone with his heartfelt poetry. He appreciated the role of books and literature, and especially a book like Spectrum and Beyond, in raising awareness towards a societal concern.

From words on paper to a room full of love, the attendees engaged in discussions around autism acceptance and the importance of inclusive environments. The event also highlighted the role of literature in breaking social stigma and encouraging informed conversations about developmental conditions. Artists and journalists were present at the event, marking the event as a milestone well celebrated and a memory beautifully created.

Representatives from Crossword Bookstores said such events are part of their effort to turn bookstores into community spaces that encourage meaningful conversations around important social issues. Marking its very first such Book Launch session at the store located in City Centre Patna, the bookstore chain has increasingly hosted book launches, readings, and awareness programs across cities.

The launch concluded with interactive sessions and book signings, where readers interacted with the author, shared personal stories related to autism, and discussed themes from the book. The gathering also reflected the growing trend of bookstores serving as cultural spaces for dialogue and awareness-building. The author shared how a book launch at the prestigious Crosswords Bookstore is a dream almost every author holds close, and the event stood as a milestone, a memory, and a dream fulfilled. She thanked the store management and team, and everyone who participated in the event, making it a grand success and memorable.
