Sahitya, the literary society of the highly prestigious Delhi Technological University, hosted its Orientation 2026, welcoming over 150 enthusiastic students to an engaging two-hour session from 4 PM to 6 PM. The orientation served as an introduction to the society, its vision, and the wide range of opportunities it offers to students with an interest in literature, writing, communication, public speaking and creativity. The session aimed to give the newly joined students a sense of what Sahitya represents and the vibrant community they could become a part of.
The session began with an introduction to the Sahitya Council, allowing the students to familiarise themselves with the team behind the society and the work it undertakes throughout the year. This was followed by an overview of the different wings of Sahitya, highlighting the varied domains through which students can express themselves and contribute. From literature and poetry to content, public relations and other creative avenues, the students were given a glimpse into the diverse work undertaken by the society and the different ways in which they can explore their individual interests.
Beyond simply introducing the society, the orientation placed considerable emphasis on interaction and connection. An engaging interactive session allowed students to communicate with the council, ask questions, share their thoughts and gain a better understanding of the opportunities and experiences that Sahitya has to offer. The open exchange helped create a comfortable atmosphere for the students, encouraging them to participate actively rather than remain mere attendees. It also allowed them to familiarise themselves with the people, ideas and values that form the foundation of Sahitya.
Prior to the physical event, Sahitya organized an Author Session in Digital form with Sonal Agrawal on Zero Day, which was attended by around 100 students. Mrs. Sonal not only talked about her debut work, “The Grass Is Greener On My Side”, but also shared her experience and expertise not just as an author but also as an educator. The session was met with a lot of applause and excitement, as various students not only shared their own writing journey and style with Mrs Sonal but also got their various questions answered regarding the writing process and positivity. The Digital Session was also attended by Nitish Raj; Editor-in-Chief, The Literary Mirror, which is also the Official Magazine Partner of Sahitya Orientation 2026.
Adding an element of fun and spontaneity to the evening, an interactive quiz was conducted for the students. The quiz brought out their curiosity, enthusiasm and competitive spirit, creating a lively atmosphere within the hall. It also provided a refreshing break from the informational aspects of the session and encouraged students to engage with one another. The winners were felicitated with books by acclaimed author Jyoti Jha’s “Spectrum And Beyond” and a young debut author; Pratyush Jha’s “Midnight Snacks and Murder”, making the moment particularly special and adding a meaningful literary touch to the celebrations.
The enthusiastic response from the students throughout the session made the orientation a memorable beginning to the new year. Their participation, questions and eagerness to learn reflected the growing interest in becoming a part of Sahitya and contributing to its literary and creative ecosystem. The energy in the room highlighted the potential of bringing together individuals with different perspectives, interests and voices under one shared space.
With new ideas, perspectives and voices coming together, the orientation reflected Sahitya’s larger aim of creating a community where literature is not limited to books and written words, but becomes a medium for expression, conversation, creativity and connection. It set the tone for a year of discussions, events, collaborations and opportunities for students to discover and develop their voices.
The Orientation 2026 marked not merely an introduction to a society, but the beginning of a journey into a community that celebrates words, ideas and the stories that bring us together. As the new members stepped into the Sahitya family, the session opened the door to a year filled with possibilities, creativity and countless stories waiting to be written.
