A Journey of Resilience, Revolution, and Triumph- Dr. RupaShree Personifies Women Empowerment

Life isn’t simply about who you are, where you are. It is defined by the steps you have taken and the distance you have traveled. Dr. RupaShree, Founder-Director; MothersTouch Deoghar is an embodiment of establishing self-worth from the difficulties life threw at her consistently, creating extraordinary achievements amidst the ordinary circumstances, and setting an example of women empowerment by building large dreams against the conservative heartland she grew up and lived.

A graduate in English Honours from S M College, Bhagalpur, Bihar, a Postgraduate in Music and a Gold Medalist, and an Honorary Doctorate (Chennai), life seemingly threw ordinary goals and preset rules at her- that of getting married and settling down in life like any other small-town middle-class family. But she dared to break the stereotype and become the owner of her life while perfectly balancing her regular normal verve of being a homemaker, wife, daughter, and mother. A proud mother of an adorable son, Dr. RupaShree, like any other woman, craved a second child, especially a daughter. But as it was preordained, her desire had a long way from being fulfilled. To curb her longing, she opened a playschool and got tremendously attached to the children who joined the school. She loved spending time with childhood innocence and establishing her school to newer heights. Her commitment to caring for the children and the overall well-being of her school premise with utmost sincerity, made the luck shine and she conceived and gave birth to her second child- a loving daughter. RupaShree had found inspiration in her mother-in-law and adored her struggles of single-handedly raising the family as the only earning member when her husband, although appointed as an academician, received no remuneration for his work. A Ph.D. from Patna College and the principal of a government school, Dr. Urmila Mishra, RupaShree’s mother-in-law, was a lady with strong grit and will-power who set an example of empowered women in the time when the plight of women was even more pitiful.

A worthy daughter-in-law of a worthy mother-in-law, Dr. RupaShree, through her motherhood and household responsibilities, continued to carry forward her venture to fresher scales from a beautiful journey that had begun on 14th November 2004. Celebrating children all along, the school named Bachpan Playschool gained popularity in town over the years and to accommodate the enthusiastic students, parents, and teachers’ constant requests, a senior section of the school was inaugurated in the year 2008 as MothersTouch. RupaShree has always been a staunch supporter of girl power and to ensure her contribution towards providing equal access to opportunities and education to girl children, MothersTouch became a single-gender girls-only school. Bachpan Playschool grew in leaps and bounds and acclaimed several franchisees all over the country ranking a proudly brimming 3rd rank all over India in the year 2008. At the pious occasion of the Raksha-Bandhan celebration, the children of MothersTouch Bachpan School were invited to the Prime Minister’s House and received the honor of tying Rakhi to then Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh. In the year 2014, the school, under the capable guidance of RupaShree, attended an event in Thailand by a reputable NGO. Dr. RupaShree received the Bharat Gaurav Award in the same year. She was also conferred the prestigious ‘Rashtriya Shiksha Ratan’ award at the 49th annual conference of the Indian Economic Development and Research Association (IEDRA) held on October 11, 2008, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi for her contribution to the field of girl child education.

RupaShree always possessed an eagerness and altruistic tendency to help and support vulnerable people from harm and exploitation, and in this quest, she volunteered her spare time to several NGOs. President of Lions Club, Secretary of Mithila Mahila Munch, Secretary of Baidhyanath Painting R & D Cultural Society, Counselor Member- Mahila Thana, and Brand Ambassador -Nagar Nigam (Swachh Bharat Mission), she has been associated with causes close to her heart. She also likes to contemplate the nature of the Divine, connect and honor the powerful path of spiritual development, and spends time indulging in Pooja and Meditation. As the Secretary of Mithila Mahila Manch, she was bestowed with the honor of offering a painting done by the women of the community, to the power icon and Indian politician, Mrs. Smriti Irani. RupaShree’s plea to be a part of the Women and Child Welfare Division is underway and has been submitted to the PMO.
