Dr. Sujata Chatterjee is an accomplished author, poet, journalist, and practicing anaesthesiologist whose literary journey began at the age of eight under the guidance of her maternal grandfather, a poet. Her early poems and essays were regularly featured in school and college publications, nurturing a lifelong passion for writing. After completing Journalism from the Delhi School of Journalism, she contributed the column A Patient I Can Never Forget to Women’s Era and wrote acclaimed articles including I Am a Survivor and Awareness of Covid-19 in Women.
Despite a demanding medical career, Dr. Chatterjee continued to pursue literature. Her debut short story collection, Flights of Fantasy (2013), was followed by three poetry collections—Looking Through the Prism (2017), The Waves of Fortune (2018), and Wind Chimes (2022), several poems from which have received literary awards. Her work has earned numerous honours, including the Swami Vivekananda Excellence Award for Literature, Literoma Laureate Award, National Book Honor Award, Top 100 Inspiring Authors of India Award, and Women Empowerment Award.
Her books have been showcased at major book fairs across India, including the Delhi World Book Fair and Kolkata International Book Fair. She has also edited The Traveller’s Diary and contributed to several acclaimed anthologies on themes ranging from organ donation and autism to social issues and human resilience.
Currently based in Kolkata, Dr. Sujata Chatterjee serves as a Specialist Medical Officer with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation while working on a forthcoming book highlighting the inspiring journeys of cancer survivors, beautifully blending her medical expertise with her passion for storytelling.
