Beyond the effective mass entertainment, magnificent epic battle, and impactful Audio-Visual effects, the Indian Cinema proves, yet again, that to depict our culture and mythology, we always seek shelter in the representation of the same through a Western lens. A distinctive familiarity to the universes of Marvel and DC, and the Transformers series, all with an underlying storyline and concept of Indian Mythology, Kalki 2898 AD is an experience where you indefinitely slog and impatiently wait for the gradual torment to end somehow. As abruptly as the end concludes the ongoing sluggishly slow and repetitively monotonous chronicle, some sporadic engrossing moments are favourably lost somewhere through the track of discomforting eeriness and disturbing cringe effect all over.
While several generations seem to have passively passed in the convenient ignorance of Indian Culture and Mythology, if we are geared up to impart glimpses of the same for future generations to imbibe, understand, and interpret through such poor portrayal as the modern source of history, then we simply earmark that we are undoubtedly headed towards doom already.
On second thoughts, if the movie simply attempts to demonstrate the alarming fact that the ill-fated humanity is descending to the dark era and that we should mend our ways well in time to avert that, it would still require immense patience to sit through the agonizingly long three hours of the film to decipher that.
Either way, Kalki 2898 AD doesn’t make it to the mandatory watchlist, or one can wait to watch it in 2898 AD.
