Vectors in the Void by Giselle Mehta – Independence Day Special Edition

Giselle Mehta was previously an officer of the Indian Revenue Service.  Writing lies at the core of her creative self. Her fiction reflects her multiple immersions and passions. Her debut novel was “Blossom Showers”- a three-generational saga set in South India’s coffee plantations. It was a bestseller in the Landmark chain of bookstores for a while in 2011. Her second novel, “Vectors in the Void”, throws together the Second World War in Europe with the Independence and Partition of India, an intriguing convergence of events as experienced in the emotional life of her characters. Its root concept is to view major events of the 20th century through the eyes of a powerful woman protagonist and her progeny, where family dramas play out concurrently with external political turbulence. Its content has resonated deeply with readers, especially the lifelike construction of characters and the fascinating research that fleshes out the book. It was on the Shortlist of the Chanticleer Somerset Award for Literary Fiction in 2024. She is completing a third novel on an interesting historical subject. The author is also active as a speaker whose insights are conveyed across disciplines and public events.
