Mythology books are one of our most-anticipated TBR as they take us into a different world, and especially when the protagonist of the book is a female character. Even though it’s tough to find mythology books with a female protagonist, we tend to read them as they give us different interpretations contrary to our pre-conceived notions. What if there are three central female figures in a mythology book? What if they are not our ideal idols of forgiveness, dedication, love, and sacrifice?
Prabir Kumar Dash, in his latest novella ‘Ladies of the Lores’, brings a never-heard tale of three mythological women who are labelled as villainesses. Inspite of infamy attached to their personality, Mr. Dash paints vivid, deeply human portraits that reveal their complexities, motivations, and struggles. The reimagining of these women with intricate mythological details blended with emotional depth makes the ancient tales alive and relevant.
After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in India, Prabir arrived in the United States in the mid-1970s with a scholarship grant from the Science Foundation to pursue graduate studies. After a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, he joined a company to work on Nuclear Power Generating Plant design and implementation.
His profession took him from New York to Washington State, Texas, and Tennessee. Prabir is an avid traveller of India. His job and his travels allowed him to see the length and breadth of two beautiful countries, get to know their people, and expand the horizons of his imagination.
At the turn of the century, he began writing short stories in English and poems and songs in his mother tongue, Odia. Some of his short stories were published in magazines.
He continues to write songs in Indian languages. Two commercial CDs were released and were hits in India. Now, they are sold by Amazon Music and Apple iTunes. Some pieces were incorporated into TV serials. One historical epic poem of 400 stanzas and other poems are currently under negotiation to be published in India.
‘Ladies of the Lores’ is a must-read for mythology fans and anyone who loves stories that challenge stereotypes. It’s a short but powerful journey that leaves you questioning narratives and celebrating the strength of these remarkable women.

Loved the book . Enjoyed the unique view point of the author on the ladies, who are considered villains in our mythology. But the back story and circumstances, according to the author have the readers understand their actions , which made them villains.
Very enjoyable book. Keeps you engrossed. Will highly recommend it
